This recipe is so much fun! This has now become a weekly tradition to make homemade fruit snacks in our house. I now have more molds than we know what to do with…

One of the best parts about this recipe is that the kids get to pick out a different color/flavor each time. If you have enough molds, like we do, each of the kids and mom can pick out a different color. You will need one Jello packet, one packet of unflavored gelatin, and 1/2 cups of water.

Once you have your flavor picked out, fill a liquid measuring cup with 1/2 cup of water. Then mix in your Jello and gelatin. Let this sit for about 1 minute.

At this point your liquid should look about like apple sauce. Pour this into a saucepan and over medium heat warm up your liquid. You want to heat it up enough that the solution turns back to a water consistency and is clear.

You do not want to boil it. The texture will be off, and it will be cloudy instead of the pretty clear fruit gummies.

Now comes the messy part…..I placed a towel down on the table so when the kids spilled Jello at least it would be an easy clean up. Trust me, put the towel down.

Use a large liquid dropper to fill the molds. It’s a lot easier to use a dropper than to try to pour and spread it.

Fill the molds as full as possible without overfilling. This will make them the easiest to remove. You will have to be slightly quick about this as the solution will thicken as you go.

Next, I put the filled molds onto a cookie sheet and placed them in the fridge.

Let them set for at least an hour. Trust me you want to let them set FULLY before you check on them. I learned the hard way that if the kids see one, there is no going back. By the end of that mold, they no longer looked like dinosaurs.

The final step is to pop all of your homemade fruit snacks out of the molds.

To do this, its easiest to push up from the back until it literally pops out. If there are little pieces, try to push that side up first. I think this was my daughter’s favorite part of making them.

Now Enjoy! If you do not eat them all at once you can put them in an airtight container and put in the fridge.

Ingredients/Supplies

  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 3oz Packet of Jello (pick your favorite)
  • 1 Packet Unflavored Gelatin
  • Large Liquid Droppers
  • Silicone Mold

Let’s Make Fruit Snacks

1

In a liquid measuring cup, measure out 1/2 cup of water. Next add your Jello and gelatin and mix.

2

Let sit for 1 minutes. It should look similar to apple sauce consistency.

3

Pour into a saucepan and heat until the mixture is smooth and clear again. Do not boil or your fruit snacks will be cloudy.

4

I found it is easiest to pour the liquid back into the measuring cup and use a large liquid dropper to fill your molds.

5

Once your molds are filled, place them in the fridge for at least an hour to set. Trust me, wait at least an hour or it will be so much harder to get them out of the mold.

6

Push up from the back of the mold to pop out the shapes.

7

Enjoy your homemade fruit snacks! If you don’t eat them all at once, place them in an airtight container in the fridge.
