Multiple kids that all like to “help”?
I have the solution with these kid friendly chocolate chip cookies!
This recipe is small enough so each child can make their own bowl and you won’t end up with a million cookies.
If you are anything like me, you like the thought of baking with your kids but once you actually start the process things don’t exactly go as planned. Here you will find a kid friendly chocolate chip cookie recipe.
This gets amplified when all of the kids want to “do it themselves” or “don’t want to share”. One way we have been able to make it all a little easier and more fun is to let each kid have their own bowl. Now be warned it does equate to more dishes but it’s totally worth it!
If it didn’t result in a mess, did it even happen???
When we bake, it all goes much smoother if everyone has their own bowl, spoon, and ingredients. So this recipe is PERFECT for us.
Whenever we bake with the kids, we use it as a learning experience by counting the cups. It is also a great way to practice large motor skills filling the cups and stirring. As well as not spilling when they pour everything into the bowl.
A fun way to keep everyone happy when we pick the bowls and spoons is to let the first one to pick a bowl be the last one to pick a spoon. We then have varying sizes of each item and by the time they all have supplies all of them are content with their choices and there is no fighting.
Its never too early or to late to learn how to bake. Don’t worry if they don’t turn out perfectly, it is all just part of the fun and making memories.
Ingredients:
- 3/4 c. butter flavored Crisco shortening
- 1 1/4 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoon milk
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1 3/4 c. flour
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. chocolate chips of your choosing
- 1 c. coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in large bowl. Beat until blended. Add egg; beat into creamed mixture.
- Combine flour, salt, baking soda; mix into creamed mixture until blended. (I usually skip the premixing and just add them directly to the first bowl. Just put the smaller ingredients in first, mix, then add flour.)
- Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. If you do not add nuts, then add 1/2 c. more chocolate chips. Chill dough for roughly 4hrs.
- Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 3 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake one sheet at a time. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes or until light brown.
- Let cool and enjoy your kid friendly chocolate chip cookies!
Hope you enjoy these kid friendly chocolate chip cookies it as much as we do!
